CONNECTICUT'S LARGEST BARNES & NOBLE TO OPEN AT STAMFORD TOWN CENTER
Released: 07/28/06
STAMFORD, Conn., July 28, 2006 - Barnes & Noble will open a two-level, 40,000-square-foot book store - the largest in the state and the first in Stamford - on Tresser and Greyrock at Stamford Town Center next year.
"We've been looking for a store in Stamford for a long time, but we haven't been able to find the right space until now," says Don Kuszmar, Barnes & Noble real estate director.
Taubman Centers Inc. (NYSE: TCO), which owns and manages Stamford Town Center, is currently transforming the former Filene's department store building into a mix of signature retail and restaurant offerings, which will debut in the fall of 2007. Barnes & Noble Booksellers is the first retailer announced to occupy this space.
"The fact that Barnes & Noble has chosen Stamford Town Center for one of its largest stores nationwide says a lot about how this area attracts the best of the best - and it's obviously the perfect complement to our downtown retail market," says Stamford Mayor Dannel P. Malloy.
The new store will carry close to 200,000 book, music, DVD and magazine titles and include a cafi serving Starbucks coffee and selections from The Cheesecake Factory. Its large children's departments will stock more than 15,000 titles in an easy-to-browse environment and feature thrice-weekly children's story hours.

Barnes & Noble visitors will be able to listen to any CD in the store by passing any of 200,000 music titles under a scanner at state-of-the-art listening stations.
A giant, in-store newsstand will offer more than 2,000 titles, including hundreds of hard-to-find specialty magazines, out-of-town and even foreign newspapers.
Demolition on the old building is almost done, according to Mike McAndrews, Stamford Town Center general manager. "We're well on the way to creating an updated design with new retail options, significantly greater visibility to the city and much-needed pedestrian access to the mall," he adds.
Barnes & Noble is the world's largest bookseller, operating 799 stores in 50 states. This will be the 13th store in Connecticut.
Stamford Town Center, with Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's and 130 fine stores, is located at Exit 8 off I-95, at the intersection of Tresser and Greyrock.
